PETITE SIRAH Yountville, Napa Valley
There's an old saying among Italian winemakers that every red wine needs a little Petite Sirah. This tiny block of Petite Sirah came to our attention in 2001 when we used it in our Cabernet Sauvignon (3% Petite Sirah, 97% Cabernet Sauvignon). It was pretty stunning stuff and belied the notion that the best Petite Sirah in Napa came from vineyards at the warmer, north end of the valley. As we moved to a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon we decided to make a little family wine with our two barrels of Block House Vineyard Petite Sirah. The Blockhouse Vineyard is on Yount Mill Road just north of Yountville Crossroad in Yountville, just north of the city of Napa.
Our 2003 vintage is our premier vintage of this inky black crowd-pleaser. Petite Sirah fans will love it's concentration and spicy undertones.
The little emblems on our bottles each tell a story about the things that are special to us as a family. Fifteen years ago John and Tracy met while cycling on the California coast. Cycling on the Pacific Coast Highway was a daily workout for both. Tracy was a bit more serious; she was an elite rider who raced for the Timex and TGI Fridays cycling teams and was one of the top women cyclists on the velodrome. John quickly discovered that he couldn't possibly keep up, a situation that has continued to this day!
We hope you enjoy our Two Barrel Reserve family wine!
